Pedal Steel Licks

Time to bust out your favorite pedal steel licks. This one Brent Mason played on George Strait's "Do The Right Thing" Brent probably used a B-Bender, but with a little fancy finger work, this works fine played without. It's in A going from the I to the IV

Try this. I hope I you can decipher my mess. This can be done at any position of the neck, but it's easier to do high on the neck. The 3rd, 4th & 5th strings are plucked at the same time. The 1st finger is on the 3rd, the pinky is on the 4th, and the ring finger is on the 5th string. Use your middle to walk down on the 5th. Just for explanation, this in D.

how about a little faux C6 lick. Think "Take it away" Leon McAulliffe. Key of A

pedal steel tone

what amp settings / fx do you guys like best to get more of a pedal steel mee-ow sound out of your rig

i like a heavy guitar to start with, strung medium to heavy (always with a plain G), mid/bridge or mid or bridge position, twin valve amp rig thru a 15" and 10" speakers, ramp up the mids on the amps and use a slide on my little finger to help out sometimes

..and maybe a treble booster to put the icing on the cake

its still not quite the 'wall of honey' steel sound i really love but what the hell, its cooler than sitting behind a little desk ain't it?

Try a stereo chorus for starters. It will give you a full sound.
