Guthrie Govan
Just a cool Link I "nicked" from TGP!
It has a link to the ROTOSOUND site, where you can download the Video, Mp3, Backing Track and Guthrie's TAB. So, I thought you guys might enjoy this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71izserFcek |

Budda I've been hip to Guthrie for some time. He is a friggin' monster. I don;t think there is anything he can't play ... and well. You'll also find a lot more cool vids of him on youtube especially the one with him playing with backing tracks the Larry Carlton style is just great.

Hey, much thanks for the link. I just got done with Doug 7 and Brent Mason transcriptions and wanted to take a little break from Chikn' Pickn' and try something different. the Govan mp4 thing is just what I had in mind. So great the Tab is part of the set. Can't wait to get started on it tomorrow.
I will have to check out the site the video refers to as well. |

He plays every Thursday about an hours drive from me.
Going this week again for like the 20th time. He's an absolute monster.

Govan is a monster and so well versed in every style. I'm reading his Creative Guitar book right now and he talks about how goes to watch symphony orchestras and other ensembles for inspiration and new ideas. He's so knowledgeable on every style and knows his instrument inside and out. I'd like to see him bust out some traditional flamenco, though!

Check out what he is doing with Dizzie Rascal.
It isn't traditional flamenco (he plays with a pick, on a steel string acoustic) but it is pretty damn good and heading in that direction.

Great player. Been a fan since I first saw his articles in Guitar Techniques back in 1995.

Guthrie is disgusting! only became aware of him within the last year or so. depending on the mood i'm in, he can be the hugest inspiration...or he makes me ashamed to pick up my guitar. fortunately, inspiration usually wins out. an absolute guitar machine!

I am just now getting to the tabs that go with the video you posted. It is really a great discovery....not just because the tab is accurate but because a backing track is provided and the video file is high density so it can be blown up really big on the computer for study. It is just a great little package. I really think that after mastering that solo there would not be much left that could not be learned. That solo is just about the pinnacle of guitar work.
