Fingerpicking books?
Can anyone recommend me some intermediate/advanced fingerpicking style books? I saw some on Amazon by Mark Hanson, but based on the comments they seem mostly geared towards beginners. Looking to expand my vocabulary in the blues/folk style, not so much the more complicated stuff like Kottke.

Among others, I dig the Woody Mann stuff (mostly DVDs though). http://www.woodymann.com/
Of course he is on breakdownway.com too, but I don't subscribe to that. Also Steve James has some good things. I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Roots-Blues-Fi...tt_at_ep_dpt_1

I think Kenny Sultan's books absolutely rule. I've got hundreds of books/CD's/Videos and the Kenny Sultan ones are great. I especially love the first one, I think it's Introduction to Blues guitar or Beginning Blues Guitar. They are all good though.

You might try finding tabs for particular songs you'd like to learn.
Check out guitarinstructor.com, they have video lessons and video songs that help make things much clearer. Look for something in the Chet Atkins/Merle Travis/Doc Watson vein.

This one helped me:
http://www.amazon.com/Art-Contempora...6616983&sr=8-1 It gives you some real nice alternating bass patterns. Comes with a CD so you can hear how they should sound, which is helpful. Starts off real simple then moves on to some more complex stuff. It probably is more of a beginners book but I have been playing for about 20 years and I got something out of it. |
