10-46-----> 10-52
Is the string gauge 10-52 just for 'dropped' playing?
I'm a jazzer with 10-46 on my tele and would try the 10-52 but don't know. Kurt

I'm a full time Jazz player, and I'm going the other way ... 13-50. Seems to balance out the string volumes and prevents boominess. Heavy E and B sound full, lighter wound (flatwounds) are easier to chord and still sound plenty full.

46 -10 's on the Tele but I replace the 10 with an 11 - mainly to do with the diversity of gigs I do but keeping it fuller sounding for jazz and accompanying singers.
11 - 50 on my PRS hollowbody.

My present guitar won't take higher than 10-46, but that's what I have been using for decades now. I have tried changing and I like the tension on the acoustic and stuff (although even there it is lighter than some would use)...but for me, 10-46 has always worked and have developed my "touch and technique on that, so why change!
Still, experimentation is great...be aware that you will need to adjust intonation and possibly action, maybe even the truss rod, to deal with a change of gauge and play cleanly and in tune. |
