fingerpicking is fun!

I've been playing for less than a year, and have been using a pick the whole time. I was watching one of Mojo's awesome vids and decided I wanted to try fingerpicking because it seemed so versatile. My playing has improved so much, and it's so much more fun to me... even though it was before. But right now, I feel like a kid in a candy store... things are really starting to click and it sounds like an actual song when I play. Anyone who hasn't tried fingerpicking, I highly recommend trying it... a real blast. Sorry, I just had to share.

Fingerpicking is fun indeed. But be careful. Pretty soon you'll be wanting a hollow body or an acoustic and collecting thumpicks and spending hours trying to get that roll to sound just like Merle.

I recommend starting with some Mississippi John Hurt material to get going. From that there's a whole lot of stuff out there now in days in the way of learning material.

I haven't seen this one, but the other Homespun stuff is pretty good.
Though fingerpicking is fun on it's own, the real fun of this style is in performing it for others. It's a style made to play solo as you can accompany yourself and people look at it like it's a magic trick. Plus It's great to have a few of these pieces in your back pocket when someone sees that you play guitar and says "play me a song".
