That tricky James Burton

Hey all, I was hoping someone could help me out with a lick. If you're interested you can follow this post as it gets moved to the Tabs section where no one ever responds. I'm looking for a basic tab of what Burton is doing in Ricky Nelson's "Fools Rush In". Its a common lick but this is the first song I could really pin it down. If you have the track, you can hear what I'm talking about. It starts at approximately 1:35 in burtons solo. Its kind of pedal steel sounding. Any help would be great.

Here's a clip from YouTube. The camera shows Burton's hands pretty clearly during the solo, so maybe this will help a little.

Thanks for the suggestion, but you gotta hear the recording, that solo is cut off from the original recording.

I tthink I know what lick you mean....Im not sure of the key of the song, so Im going to describe it in A and you can go from there....I *think* its based on this:

Play an A7 at the 9th fret (D7 Shape)..With your pinky hammer on from the G to the A (8 fret to 10th fret) in the B string..pull off, repeat in the "bump bah de dah bump bump da dee dah"...where the bah and dahs are pull offs...

An alternate fingering ...in D: index finger on fret 5 barring top 3 strings..ring fingeron 7th fret of the B string..with your middle finger, hammer on and pull off on the7th fret of the G string...

These are likely both simplifications..the rhythm may also be slightly different but this should give you the idea...sometime, with the A figure described above Ill chime the low and and let it ring while Im doing the hammer ons and pull offs...or the open D in the second example. It takes a bit of practice to get the lick to go smoothy and have that steel vibe...it is a fairly common country lead-rhythm pattern...the backup for that song..the string and keys play a variation on this move pretty much all thru the song...

Have you checked the transcription in Arlen Roth's book "Masters of the Telecaster"?

The solo is also transcribed in the booklet that accompanies the video James did for Hot Licks.
