"Same Old Blues" Chord Progression- Freddie King

I was listening to "Same Old Blues" by Freddie King this AM on the way to work. Not sure if he wrote it- I have it on "The Best of Freddie King".

Anyway, it's awesome, and the chord progression is not "standard" blues. I don't have a guitar to hand, and I'm lazy.

So anybody know what the chord progression is?

Anymore, Freddie is about my favorite.

Don Nix wrote this. Same guy who wrote "Palace Of The King" and at least one other classic which escapes me at this point. I'll try and dig up my "Best Of ..." and relearn it.

Cool. POTK is another classic. Blues Rock in the best sense...

Not really that familiar with it, but the progression looks interesting.

Take a look Here for some ideas.

Cheers,
Doug

I think you might be thinking of "Going Down".

That link is the "Big Legged Woman" intro riff, even though it says "Same old Blues"

I'll try from my memory:

Intro: F+

D F#7 Bm D F#7 Bm Am7 D7(9)

G G#o D Bm E7 A7 D F+

and it goes on over and over...

Awesome song!

Thanks. What’s F+? How about G#o?

The + indicates a raised fifth, http://www.how-to-play-guitar.eu/gui...itar_chord.htm

The o indicates diminished chord, which has a minor third and a flat fifth, so any chord consisting of G#, B, and D would work, like 4 2 0 x x x

F+ or A+ or C#+ are the same notes so we can consider them the same chord.

I prefer this fingering(low to high): X8766X

I play G#o like this 4X343X

You know, it's weird. I was foioling around with this tonight, and I think the turnaround is the same as "hard Times" by Ray Charles, at least the way my band plays it.

Going from that G to the dim to the D is certainly in both.

Really fun songs to play. And solo over. You can really stretch out that bent E and just feel it in your bones.

Unfortunately my "Best Of" doesn't contain the Shelter Years; however, ... I did find an article by Dave Rubin on Eight Bar Blues that I saved from an old Guitar School issue. His chords are as follows: D (C shape) 2x, F#7/Db 2x, Bm7/F# 4x, D 2x, F#7/Db 2x, Bm7/F# 2x, D13 1x, D9 1x, G/D 2x, Bbdim7 (3rd fret) 2x, D 1X, F#7/Ab 1x, B7 2x, E (Cshape) 2x, A13 2x, D 2x, A 2x. Hope that helps!
