Guitar teachers in Los Angeles?

Hi,

I'm looking for a guitar teacher in LA to help me improve my playing. I am a converted bassist with some knowledge of theory, but most of what I know about guitar comes from playing what sounds good to my ears or tabs I've found online. I don't care if the teacher is a full time instructor, full time musician, or full time accountant, I'm just looking for someone who loves to play and loves to teach others who are willing to put in the practice and learn. In a perfect world, Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers would log in, read this post, and take me in as a student. So you get the style I want to learn. I'm not trying to play professionally, I just love rock and roll and enjoy playing.

My goals are 2-fold 1) to learn to play some of my favorite music well on guitar and 2) understand what it is I'm playing musically beyond just chords and tabs.

Please let me know if you know of or are someone who might be good to contact about this. This is a great forum and I look forward to hearing anyone's advice.

Thanks!

Welcome! I don't think he's teaching privately these days, but if I were living in L.A. again, I'd be looking to study with my friend and fellow forumite, Ken Lasaine. Very knowledgeable about most any musical style under the sun, with tons of real world experience. At the very least, he might be able to point you in the right direction. Best of luck!

My friend Danny lives out there and he's a guitar instructor. He has a degree in music and has been teaching guitar for over 6 years. PM me if you want his contact details.

If you're in the Pasadena area, Tony Ryan is great. In Alhambra, Kimberly K.C. Allison is great as well.

If you're interested in taking lessons from Danny, let me know. He'll be able to teach you anything you want to know from theory to blues to shredding.
