Billy Squier sound

Hi,

I am brand new to the forum. I am also an amateur guitar player. I have been learning and playing the acoustic for a while and my wife surprised me and bought me a new Telecaster American Standard with a Fender G-DEC Junior Amp.

I was really excited about playing the electric because of the ease and flexibility it brings. However, I also discovered it has even more challenges than the acoustic in that you now have to figure out how to replciate certain artists "sound" by maniuplating yuor amp and effects gear.

Is there anyone that can help me to figure out how to get the 'Billy Squier sound" from my existing amp? I know he used a Marshall 100, but with all the gadgets the G-DEC has on it one would think I can replicate the "sound" to some degree.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome! I am also a Billy Squier fan. Sorry I can't help you with the G-DEC, I've never had one.

i think he plays teles and les paul his other guitarist plays a strat

so they compliment each other and work together in the songs to get different sounds going off

you'll have to play with your amp and model the sound you want- expect

its mostly clean with good sustain

his music has lots of keyboards in it as he studied piano
its typical classic 80's rock

his sound is kinda led zep /queen influenced

& my advice to you is to pay more attention to your wife

oh & enjoy your guitar and amp!

I fully support this idea. Making sure that your Guitar Buying Wife knows how special she really is should be way way way up there in the priority list!
