Craig
I know a UK magazine (Guitar Technique) featured a lesson a few years back; it may just be me but I couldn't find it using the search function on the website though. Everyone is a player at mattschofield.com it seems and they have kicked around licks and chords, with Matt himself posting as well. Any tune in particular you want to get? Bob

Same with me. I love the style, and find MS refreshing; it may just be that he's new to me (compared to Robben Ford). There are a few riffs/ideas that sound like SRV to me, that is if SRV listened more to BB King than Albert King.
I only have the first "Trio Live" disc; what are you listening to?

Sounds like he has woodshedded with a lot of Albert Collins, Johnny Winter, and also maybe some Cream.
So, maybe that's a good start. Try learning some classic Choruses by those guys. Gary Moore would also be a good one to cop some stuff from. Also, you may really enjoy Allen Haynes. He's a Houston based player, who is really great. And similar to what you posted by MS. Although MS seems to be more of a Blues-Rocker type, than a Blues guy. Whereas Haynes is more of a Blues guy. First impressions? He likes to use repeating licks and motifs to build excitement, and for speedy fills, etc. He plays pretty cleanly, technique-wise. Does this help? |

If you love Blues, you also might want to check out these artists:
Michael Burks, Son Seals, Anson Funderburg, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Robert Nighthawk, Eric Gales. Of course, there are a million more. But, those are some lesser talked-about, but great players. |

Okay, over on TGP they have someone's Transcription of Live Wire from the newest MS CD. I would've posted a link, but wasn't sure if that was Kosher. Just go to TGP and look at the Playing and Technique Forum.
