Slowdowner Software?
I don't a better name for it, but it will slow down recordings or jam tracks without altering the pitch. I know of one called "The amazing slowdowner" (fancy that) that cost 50 bucks to download. Any one know of another? Cheaper maybe? I would just as soon not buy a "trainer" that does cd's...I have enough trinkits and doo-dads laying around. Thanks Mike

Well, if you use Windows Media Player, just go to the Tools tab and click on "Enhancements". You will see an EQ and a "Play Speed" feature, as well as other features. FREE!
For the ones you need to purchase, I recommend Transcribe. It's really sweet. And it also "guesses" at the Notes and even Chords as they appear. So, it helps a lot. |

its been discussed here a few times, quicktime will also slow down. I use winamp, 2 plugins, one for slowing down, one for looping

Oh yeah, there is one quirk to the Windows Media Player Play Speed Function:
Cue the Track up to Play, and once it starts, you hit Pause. Once you have the Track Paused, THEN you can adjust Play Speed. Kinda funny, but that's the "secret"! LOL And yeah, Audacity IS a pretty good program. |

Just down loaded Audacity and managed to get a tune loaded but I can't figure out how to slow it down. I clicked on effect and I can see where it says change speed but it seems that the choices aren't high lighted, in other words I can't click on any of the effects, can anyone help?

In Audacity, you have to select the part of the track you want to apply the Effect to before they are enabled. You usually want to slow down the whole track, so just click on it, and do Ctrl-A.

TRANSCRIBE! is great software, it does this and much more -- and it's a guitar-specific tool.

Audacity works great!
Well a little update here. I've gotten Audacity to work for me! It's exactly what I was looking for. It can be clumsy at first trying to figure things out. I had the most trouble getting the track on the program in the first place
But thanks to all the tips on this thread I have it working pretty well. It's very cool that besides slowing the track down and it automaticly keeping in pitch, if you want to play it in a differant key, all you have to do is change it, and presto!!! Thanks to all for your help Mike |

Another Amazing Slowdowner user here, but I'm on a Mac so my options are more limited. The interface isn't very pretty, but it does its job and does it well. For $40 or whatever, it was one of my best "gear" purchases.

Does Audacity do microtonal pitch correction too? How about intervals?
I started out with an early version of ASD, but upgraded to Transcribe 6.0 a few years later. Transcribe 6 was better for me than the early version of ASD I had, but I haven't tried the latest version of either ASD or Transcribe. Transcribe 6.0 still works well for me, but 7.0 has been out for a couple of years now, so I'm tempted to upgrade... What I like best about Transcribe is that it's easy to retune tracks that are off-key. It's annoying having to retune your guitar to a track that is out of tune... Transcribe makes it super easy to tune passages or complete tracks to concert pitch. Or you can intentionally tune it away from concert pitch, if that's what you want. Transcribe does intervals too, kind of like being able to put a capo on the music instead of the guitar. Still curious about Audacity... I have a friend who does multitrack recording with Audacity and gets decent results. |

I tried a few programs and settled on the Mtraxx program from terrasoft. I hated the amazing slow downer and the others.
Mtraxx is pretty easy to use you can check out a tutorial video on their site. That's all I needed. They will give you a free trial of 15 times. I found that if I never turned it off It would let me use it forever. I eventually ran out after several months because the kids would kill it. I couldn't handle not having it so I broke down and bought it. They take Paypal. |
