Telemaster Danny Gatton Licks

I know something has been posted on Danny Gatton's Licks and Tricks videos that can be found on youtube, but there is no word on tablature for this lesson, they do exist, and i was just wondering if anyone could help me with this, as i am struggling to pick up some of the faster things he does

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys

James

Dunno, man. But I'm pretty sure if it does exist, It'll just look like rows and rows and rows of numbers really close together.

The tablature for that video is a one page thing, not really that helpful. I have a copy on a computer somewhere; Mandy may have been the one that sent it to me.

OENthing one might want to do to move in the Gatton direction is to listen to Les Paul. Danny Gatton was a big fan of Paul's, and the LEs sound is all over Gatton's playing.

Thanks for the PM, James - I have it around here somewhere...I'd have to dig it up...but I will say it's literally no help whatsoever. Or it wasn't to me at least! I will admit that I'm not really big on tab but that's not really why it's no help whatsoever...it's literally, like Miles said, one small sheet of paper (smaller than the video box it was inside of) and it gives you no real direction. It's pretty awful. I appreciate them trying...but honestly I think the fella that had to tab out what Gatton was doing...just gave up ;o)

Just keep hitting rewind over and over and over and over and over and over and over (I'm STILL rewinding as we speak!) - it's much more helpful than the small tab sheet.

hehe fair enough i shall do just that... can anybody help me comprehend Gattons chicken pickin' he doesn't seem to palm mute as he plays in that video... does he just mute with his left hand or play so fast that it makes no difference... i haven't been playing all that long so i am a little confused by him... but i am learning alot from him too haha

I like that video better than his two later more professional HOTLICKS videos, real shame there was no useful tablature. I've had that video for about 20 years and I still pull it out regularly. Wish someone would put in on a DVD.

Just cut a section and listen to it over and over and over. That's what I do and I'm sounding more and more like gatton.

Gatton mutes the strings with his picking fingers generally as well his fret hand, unless intentionally palm muting, its sort of an economy techinque so you dont have to move your hand and you can finger pick at will. Its similar to having a skrunchie over the fretboard to quiet down the string noise, except you do it at the other end.

Having fat hands helps as well

Licks and Tricks predated Telemaster and Strictly Rhythm Guitar. It's out of print now, but it is on Youtube for the time being.
