Boneguy and teleburst - Edley's "Musical Theory for Practical People" was a real door opener for me. Quite easy to read and, in my opinion, explains most basic theory well.

Then there's the philosophical aspects discussed here (like 'Do you hear a I going to IV or a V going to I?'). All I have read reagarding that are som excellent threads here at TDPRI. It has gotten me interested in finding some books though.

This underlines my point that theory can tell us how someone hears things.

I love being able to learn what makes things tick. I like specialty museums for that reason, as well as Discovery Channel shows. And, of course, musical analysis can be a big kick in the pants.

Hey Guran. I have to ask why did you include me in your book suggestion? I hadn't requested one. I'm just curious. Is it that my posts indicate to you I am severly lacking in some way.

I had no idea this would ignite such debate. I guess it wasn't as dumb of a question as originally thought. Thanks for all the great perspectives!

My mistake! I should have said stinkymommasboy (who was the one requesting it). Something just slipped...
