Flatpicking w/ thumb pick--- wrist action

There have been several threads in here about how to use the thumb pick secondarily as a flat pick for rapid up and down picking. I find it helps to use the loose rotational wrist action described by Al Di Meola in this video (at 2:00.) It counteracts some of the rigidity of having the thing attached to your thumb.

Funny you should mention it. Another member here and I have been conversing back and forth via PM about thumbpicks and related stuff.

I was just telling him about my challenge with this very thing you're talking about. With a flat pick I would just loosen the grip between my finger and thumb to get different strumming feels. I can't do that with a thumbpick so I've been experimenting with different techniques to get that same effect. I'm totally commited to the thumbpick now and can't see ever going back to a flatpick.
