"Natural" Key ?

I've heard live blues recordings where the performer specifies the key as "Natural" (e.g. "E Natural").

I know what a natural is in standard music notation, but it doesn't seem to apply here.

Any ideas?

Unless i'm mistaken , E isn't a natural key .
The only natural key where majors are concerned is C .
All the white notes on a piano are natural notes , as they have no sharps or flats as you are probably already aware .

It's probably more to do with harp playing , where the song is played in the natural key of the harmonica , often related to as ' straight playing ' .

I would guess it means E Natural Minor, which has the same notes as G Major.

'Natural" is minor scale based on the 6th note of the key. The Natural Minor.

In C this would Am or A-Aeolian.

In G it would be Em or E-Aeolian.

It has nothing to do with the term "natural" when referring to a note on a music staff.

If someone calls out the key as D natural, for instance, it simply imeans it's not D# or Db.

I thought this was the correct answer but just to be sure I asked one of the most knowledgable guys I know and he confirmed.

Has nothing to do with natural minor scale.
