Opinions needed: green-guard on a black strat?

I'm faced with one of life's major decisions here boys, and I don't want to screw it up:

My new/used JV strat arrived today and the pickguard has too much bow for me. I'm after a single-ply replacement. I like the green-guard single-ply PG's on sunburst strats, but haven't seen one on a black body. How about youse? Any online pics you can point me to?

I'm also thinking about going with aged pickup covers, tips, etc. Do you know of anyone who carries a lightly-yellowed set?(rather than the too-dark sets I see frequently)

I'm counting on y'all,

Cb

Pickup covers...

Get a set of white Fender (the plastic works better than most replacements) covers.

Pour some warm (not boiling) coffee in a small bowl and drop the covers in there. In a couple of days they will look like they've seen their share of smoke and time...

I've tried this with other covers -- Stew Mac, especially, but they didn't take the color. You can also throw in your knobs and switch tips. It looks more realistic than the "aged" pieces Fender sells, and you can control the amount of color by how long you leave them in there....

As far as the green guard, I wouldn't, but that's just me. I like the look of a white guard and aged plastic parts; it looks like Blackie....

I may be wrong, but I don't think you'll see many 1 ply green guards. . .or ones on black Strats.

First off, I believe that all green guards were originally 3 ply guards. . .most of the one ply guards pre-dated those and were white.

Also, in the years of the green guard roughly 59-63, black was a custom color and not seen much. . .therefore, you'd be hard pressed to find one.

Greenie gaurds

I think a greenie on a blackie would look real nice, especially with aged parts. I, too, thought all (original)green gaurds were three ply. In fact, I thought they were supposed to be white, but the black used for the middle ply seeped through creating the lovely mint green color....

Thanks guys! I haven't seen any 8 hole single-ply greenguards while I've been nosingaround. I've ordered a white single ply (Fender) replacement pickguard, along with a white "trem cover, p/u covers, tip & knobs set" from Angela and will do the coffee deal on the bits as recommended above. I'll also do the copper foil cavity & pickguard shielding/grounding routine while I've got it apart.

I sure do like the sound of these Jimmie Vaughan strats!

Shielding

In danger of sounding like a Callaham rep on this site, Callaham makes a full aluminum pickgaurd shield to original early sixties Fender specs. A little more reliable than the film, just a thought.

Shielding redux....

You can also pick up the shields -- either the 62-style full shield, or the earlier control-only shield -- at your local Fender dealer... Mine has bunches of 'em hangin on a rack for $5....

Callaham is likely better, but more $$

All the pickguards on the JV Strats warped easily the fix for that is double sided tape under the pickguard do that till you find a mint green guard.

Pretty sure you can get aged Fender covers and all the plastic parts allready yellowed right from Fender.

They are listed in the new price list.

The Jimmie Vaughan Strats rock most comfortable neck ever put on any Fender.
