Fender "Splatter" Strats, my opinion on 'em is ...

... absolutely YUK! - what WAS Fender thinking? Oh, wait, I know, how could I forget their prime directive...

I like em

Granted they don't look too good, but they have a sort of messy charm. I'd play one.

I wish they came with maple boards, a bucker in the bridge, and a Floyd, though...

Yep.

The Splatter Strats are gonna go down with Antigua, Wildwood, International colours and bowling ball as crook Fender finishes.

Make my Strat black or burst please.

Cheers,

Adam (he always was a pretty conservative guy...)

FWIW I think the Splatter is UGLY too but I kind of like some of the others that you mentioned.
The Wildwood series were pretty cool at least the greenish ones, though to my knowlede they never made a Wildwood Strat .
Now granted the Antigua is "different".
Some of the International colors like the bright yellow and orange are super cool to me.

But it's all a matter of personal taste - or lack of! 8)

Yep, Wildwood was for things like Coronados IIRC!

Antigua?

Someone posted a piccie of a wall covered in all the Antiguas....Strats, Teles, basses etc.

I felt quite unwell!

Cheers,

Adam

I love em. Wish they came with maple boards, too. As a kid I used to love the spinart on the boardwalk as well.

Just think, you could wear one with anything--just like your favorite tie-dye shirt.

I'm 46 btw.

Tom

At first I didn't like 'em

but I was in a music store last week checking out some small practice amps. I was trying them with various humbucker guitars that were nearby (SG, PRS Santana). When I found an amp I liked (Roland Cube 30), I wanted to see how single coils sounded. So I grabbed the nearest Strat and it was, lo and behold, a Splattercaster! It was one of the white with gold, silver and black splats. I admitted that it looked better than the blue/yellow ones I saw in ads. Anyhow, I know it's a MIM standard, but it sure played great and sounded good. And the fit and finish were perfect. It grew on me real quick. My wife mentioned that she liked it ALOT. So if my wife likes it alot, that means I can get it. And if I can get it, that's a good thing. So VIVA LA SPLAT!

Antigua's are worser IMHO

They had three or four at the local shop and I grabbed the one with the thickest neck ( and yeah one of them was noticeably "chunkier" than the rest) and wailed away. Played great and ya know I didn't look at the paint job once while I was playing it ( it was surf green with the large mammal vomit scheme ).

I didn't buy it, don't need another strat at the mo and besides I would probably look at it when I WASN'T playing it LOL. They ought to be pretty cheap next year when everyone's sick of them....

I think they look cool! I played a couple - typical MIM Fenders - nothing special but decent. BTW, here is the do it yourself kit: http://www.spinartusa.com/machines.htm

I'm feeling light-headed

did anyone notice a paint smell on the Splattercasters? Maybe it was power of suggestion, but I could swear I got a paint fumes buzz from the ones I tried at GC

Could they get anymore 1985 Mad Max looking?

I could understand IF these actually came out in 1985 but come on... these are laughable and dated the instant I saw one.

Splatter-Antiguas

For all you antigua lovers I read that Fender is making a limited run of these for awhile. It used to be cool seen playing a Fender but now I wonder "WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?"

I would like to change my vote

When they first came out I saw two of them and thought they looked cool. Every other one I've seen since then looks terrible. Look for these to be on clearance after the holidays.

Actually, I think they'd be purrfect....

for a Formal, what a great way to offset that
Tux you gotta wear!!!! One for the white, and
one for the black. Or any suit for that matter,
just make sure you wear a solid shirt. If the
concensus is correct (I believe it will be) I'll buy
as many of these as I can provided they play
well. Here's a SCARY THOUGHT: we ALL know
Fender....you know there's a couple'la Teles
in Splatter floatin' around....and I want one. At
49 y.o. I gotta keep an open mind (that new
Jack Nicholson movie must be about me and
Muddy Waters and them young wimmens!!!)

I've attended art school and in my opinion they are cool.

They also remind me of the coolest Ibanez guitars ever made, the multicolor Steve Vai signature. I hate floyd roses and I also hate flat "speed" necks which is why I never bought one.

but the splattercasters have the same vibe.

As of last Friday my local had 4 in stock..the same number they had last month..they are allready reduced...
This was a BAAADDDDD idea..it would have been OK on a Showmaster or a Cyclone..but on a Strat.......I wonder how many each dealer was required to take?

Hey, they still gotta sell the bodies they messed up. Can't just throw them away.

Besides, Fender needs a foil for all the new age crap Gibson has been putting out lately (platinum, goth, etc).
