Stumbled on a great pickup combination!
I've been really likin' my Antigua reissue Strat because it just feels great and stays in tune even with pretty extensive bar usage. It just sounded horrible - it had the most thin and shrill pickups I've heard in a long time. To give you an idea, the neck pickup had the icepick qualities. So a buddy of mine had a couple Kinman's lying around and I picked up a Duncan JB Jr. cheap.[*]Kinman AVn-62 in the neck[*]Kinman AVn-56 in the middle[*]Duncan JB Jr. in the bridge
I threw them in last night and man this thing sounds awesome now! Strat tones and quack plus the smooth bridge humbucker - this is great! |

Tell me more about the JB jr.
Tell me more about the JB jr. I tried a Lil 59 in a tele once and found it constipated and middy. I'm looking for an almost single- coil low output humbucker sound for my bridge pickup, I was thinking of getting a full-size Seth Lover or something, but I remember hearing something good before about the JB jr.

The JB Jr. isn't going to get you a single coil sound. It is just a nice warm sounding humbucker. The output level seems pretty compatible with the other pickups. I'm happy with the balance and variety of tones I can get.
I have regular JB's in a couple guitars - I've always like them. Particularly when paired up with a Duncan Jazz in the neck. |
