One of the twins!
Gee, that's a great pic of Lennon playing one of the two matching Sonic Blue Strats he and George got in, what, '65? (I can look it up when I get home)...
Can you say, "Nowhere Man"...? George's got painted, and became the famous "Rocky" Strat - check my avatar. Don't have a clue what happened to John's... BTW, I've almost completed my next project, which is in fact a (ReRanch rattlecan) Sonic Blue body with a Musikraft rosewood neck, trying to replicate the guitar in your photo. I've assembled a Rio Grande Vintage TallBoy set on a mint-green pickguard with all mint trim, the mint color choice based on some photos in the excellent books, "Beatles Gear" and "Fuzz and Feedback: Guitars of the Sixties." In the photo's of John's guitar that I do have, the plastic trim all looks white, don't know what's up there - but I have done a test fit of the mint on Sonic Blue and it looks waaaaay cool, even if it's not "Lennon correct" - I got my Casino for that. I should have it all finished by... Halloween! |

Lennon
I love that photo of Lennon. I wonder what did happen to that guitar. Probably hangin' in some hard rock cafe somewhere. I'm sure George is playin' that strat of Lennon's in the film,'Imagine' You know the shot of George joining John in the studio to record, I believe 'How do you sleep' That had to have been early 70'S.

Wasn't that a maple board Strat on "How Do You Sleep?"
I haven't seen it in a while, but I remember it being maple. I bugged out when I saw that photo. Here's the site it came from: http://www.thecanteen.com/fabguitars.html |

In the booklet coming along with Johns Greatest Hits CD you can see him with another Fender - namely a Candy Apple red "The Strat" - the one with gold knobs, bridge ad other gold plated hardware. He is sitting playing on his bed - plugged in, actually. Troels

still looks funny...
without his Ric or Casino. I wonder what if they had continued to tour for one more year they would have incorporated those 2 sonic blues.

That Strat
You could be right about the fret board. It's been awhile since I've seen that film too. I think both John and George had good guitar collections going.
Seems like every time you see them in a photo toward the end of the Beatles (68- '70), they're playing a different guitars, although I think Lennon was was loyal to his casino.
