Any Luther Allison Fans???? Gear question.....
I have been listening to "Live at Chicago" all week. Really loving the tones he got live. I have seen pics (never live) of him with a strat and with Gibsons. Is anyone familiar with his gear set-up from this recording. Guits, amp, pedals???
I have tried internet searches for his setup and cannot find any info. Happy Sunday ! LarryR |

I would ask Bernard...
Hi Larry,
I'm a fan too... why don't you get on his son's sight(Bernard Allison) and email him, I would bet that he would answer your questions. Steve

Tried your suggestion
Looked at 3 websites and can't find an e-mail section, but I saw that Bernard is playing near here on Oct 10 & 11 in Hermosa Beach Ca so I think I will try and get down there to check him out.
Thanks for the idea to check his website Larry |

Huge Fan
Hey Larry. Luther Allison is one of my all time favorite bluesmen. His main guitar was a Les Paul (don't know which one) and he used a sparkle Tele for slide. Early in his carrer (in Chicago before he moved to France in the 70's) he was playing either a Gibson 335 or 345, as he was greatly influenced by BB King. Since his death, a lot of his early recordings have been released. I especially recommend "Luther's Blues." (ps - I have a video of him at the Montreaux Jazz Festival. You are welcome to borrow it.)

On the Live in Paradise video, which is a later one after he moved to France, he plays most on a Gold Top with P90's and a wraparound tailpiece ('54 reissue?) and also plays a humbucker LP and a tele for slide. I've seen early pictures of him with a strat. SoCal TDP video exchange club, maybe Joe and Larry?

Sounds like a good idea??? don't have much but I got a few.
With L.Allison, it sounds like there is more going on then just straight Gibson/amp. Joe, you know any more about stuff in the chain between guit and amp? Thanks guys. LR |
