Buddy Holly's Last Strat

I was surfing around tonight and ran across this:

http://www.buddyhollyonline.com/guitar.html

It's probably been posted before, but I thought it was pretty cool. What an incredible instrument.

Wow!
What an interesting article. That pick under the scratch-plate was a lucky find!

This was in Guitar Player several years ago. I think it was the issue with Meredith Brooke (I think that's her name, the one that did the tune, "*****") was on the cover.

Thanks for that, I can still remember the announcement coming on the radio that night, I was listening to the top 10 in my bedroom, it's etched there.

Keep your grubby mitts off that guitar. That's like handling the dead sea scrolls.

I've seen this before, it's neat. My Musicmaster has the same neck date. Maybe my Musicmaster bumped into Buddy's Strat while at the factory!

Years ago my band played a gig in San Marcos. The regular soundguy didn't show--the manager of the club wanted to cancel--but we insisted that we were booked and had to play. A substitute sound guy came in 45 minutes later.

We played several sets.. and ended up doing a ton of Buddy Holly songs. And the soundguy made us even better. He really knew what he was doing.

After the show, he introduced himself. He used to work for Norman Petty. He owned the mic that Buddy used there in Clovis.

So that's my brush with Holly.

Buddy - Tele Like It Is !!

One of the bits of misinformation that The Buddy Holly Story put out there was Buddy playing a Telecaster. I've never seen a shot of Buddy with a Tele, but on the video cover there is Gary "Buddy" Busey playing a Tele. I think they eventually replaced the cover with a different pic, but hardly a tribute to the first rock and roll star to play a Strat.

Yeah all the info and names used in that movie is wrong. I'm Gary Busey did a great doing Buddy Holly, but the story information is wrong

Fascinating stuff, and a really beautiful strat regardless of its amazing provenance. Thanks for the heads up.

howz 'bout this quote from the article ?
"Although Page found the Strat in fine shape, it had accumulated a thick layer of grime over the years-a condition attributed to the fact that the Holly family would always welcome fans into their home, and allowed anyone to play Holly's guitars in their music room."
