Walter Trout in San Diego
I was in San Diego last weekend and to my surprise I was able to go and see Walter Trout. He was playing at Victor's on the Bay.His live performance is outstanding and he has a bag full of licks and tricks on that Ol' Strat. His tone was great also and he was plugged into a Mesa Boogie Head w/4x12 cab.[great harmonics and sustain]Walter Trout has definitely moved onto my top ten list of best Strat players.I also bought his latest CD and it is great!
P.S. Alan Iglesias [SRV impersonator]also played before Walter. He was in the 1983 SRV dress and had some of the moves and chops but his TONE SUCKED!The guitar was way over processed and compressed and as a result his tone was all muddy and muffled. He would have been much better off just plugging his Strat STRAIGHT into his Super Reverb amp!He is a decent player and its a shame someone close to him doesn't tell him about his tone which is not even CLOSE to SRV. |

Walter is a great player and a nice guy. He used to play at Blind Melons alot when I lived there.
As far as the SRV impersonator...that would be a tough line of work. IF I had the talent, I wouldn't want to make a living being an impersonator of ANYONE. It would be a drag to me. :( |
