3-ply or 1-ply? White plastic parts or aged?
I always admired David Gilmour's black strat, so I have recrently finished my "Blackie" partscaster:
![]() But I realised that David's guitar has a single ply black pickguard, though mine has a 3-ply (black-white-black layers). Also David's plastic parts have aged through the years, while mine are white like snow. So the questions are these: Q1) Do you think think that a 1-ply pickguard is looking better on o Blackie guitar like that? Take a look at this, for example: ![]() Do you think that it looks better or worse? Q2) Do you think that I sould age the white plastic parts (or buy aged ones) or should I leave them age through the years?? |

Nice guitar
Personally, I like the bwb pickguard, but if you're going for authenticity, the I guess the one-ply black is more authentic. http://utopia.knoware.nl/users/ptr/p...ages/david.jpg And I guess I would try and age the parts some probably by scuffing them with steel wool or fine sandpaper and soaking them in strong tea or coffee for several hours. You could, of course, get an aged or parchment set of knobs and covers. good luck with a cool project Allen |

i think an all black pickgaurd looks a bit bland on a black guitar, and aged parts looks best when aged naturally, so i would leave it the way it is now, unless you want to have you guitar be as close as possible to david gilmour's.

I like it the way it is now.
I like 3-ply pickguards because you see the stripe outlinng the shape. 1-plies are nice because they give you more space between the strings and the pickguard. So for me, they're easier to play with a 1-ply, but I like the looks of 3-plies better. Pete |

Thats the strat i want to build. Gilmour is one of my favorite guitarists. I prefer the BWB pickguard with the either aged or white. Gilmours were once white too. Gilmour has changed his so many times he'll probably end up with a BWB pickguard sometime anyway.
