EMG SPC and EMG EXG
Hey,
I just installed the EMG SPC and EMG EXG into my Strat. Holy Cow! What a difference!!! With the knobs turned all the way down it seems to be the same as it was when they were turned up to ten before. When I turn them up a bit it really starts to shape the sound. It feels like the first time that I have tone controls that actually add something and not just limit the sound / tone of my guitar. Anybody else try these EMG EQ products? How did you like it? Bob |

i've got 'em....i installed the DG-20 set into one of my Strats....
i think i'm going to pull the EXG & SPC, reverting to the usual Strat control configuration (keeping the EMG P-ups, of course).....i really like being able to roll off the neck P-up's tone for jazz tunes.... they also eat batteries pretty quickly i've noticed |

how quickly do they eat them? should i be counting with a calendar or a stopwatch?
i am using the emg stuff with a set of GFS pick ups. i think i like it, but i am not sure yet... mostly sure, just not definite. you see, i built this partscaster and put in three totally different pups (a tele bridge pup, a Texas Special in the middle, and a DiMarzio Virtual Vinage in the neck) and the tone is killer. it is better than my fender - did i just say better? i have started thinking about taking out the GFS neck and middle pups and switching them with the partscaster. what do you think? bob

battery life in mine (powering the P-ups & extra circuitry) has proven to be around 75 -80 hours....they're not dead, mind you, but levels are beginning to drop noticeably....
as to your choice for P-ups, there's no accounting for our individual tastes.... if you are diggin' 'em, it doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks ! |

I like EMGs a lot in Fenders. I've used the SAs with SPC for years & bought a Gilmour set for my last strat, but hated the EXG and the lack of a tone control. I pulled out the combo board that they're on, put in just an SPC and a master tone control instead & just love that axe now. I have two strats set up this way & a tele with the T-set. I put a concentric volume/tone control on the tele with the SPC so I'd have the same setup & not have to drill any holes.

Please elaborate
Midge, please elaborate on the concentric pot you used for the Tele. Is it a 25K concentric and where did you put it in the circuit? Vol/Tone/SPC? I have the Aerodyne Tele that I put EMG's in but it lacks the tone shaping capability I get on my Aerodyne Strat with the SAV/SPC setup.
