mn8 50's classic
I have black 50's classic w/mn8 serial# that is not as light as a couple others(mn9#'s) that I've played. As a matter of fact it is quite a bit heavier. Were the first year runs made of alder instead of poplar? I've heard that some were actually made in the usa before the new plant in mexico was finished and then sent to mexico for paint and assembly. Is there any truth to this rumor? This is a great strat with exceptional tone especially after I changed the pickups to Van Zandt blue's.

All the 98 MIM Classic series Teles and Strats were made in the USA painted in mexico and assembled in the USA. The specs didnt change till around 2000 so if its a solid color its more than likely poplar. Sunburst with a $50 upcharge gets the alder body. There can be light and heaver versions in all models. I have seen 50's Classic Teles at 6.5lbs and also at over 8lbs all the same woods.
