Help for New Strat Player

Thinking about buying my 1st Strat ( on a budget). Always been a Gibson and Tele fan but now in the mood for something new. In fact I've only owned hardtails since I started playing. Anywho...looking for a Strat 50's RI or a MIM Tex-Mex for around $350. Any opinions on these would be welcome. Also if anyone could point me in the direction of one that would be great too.

I played one of the new Squire Anniversary Strats the other day and was very impressed with that sub $200 guitar. Anyway...thanks in advance for the advice.

Tim

Try to find a used Jimmie Vaughan

The best bang for the buck. The neck is outstanding and the stock pickups are totally useable. Did I mention the neck? Good luck.

MIM

I had a MIM white Strat that just just spoke to me. Added Noiseless pickups, and a tortoise pickguard and I couldn't be happier! Classic looks and sound! 8) If it wasn't that one it would've been a MIM 50's Strat. That's a REAL nice peice. Darn, I think have GAS coming on.

Ditto on the Jimmy Vaughan, second choice - 50's re-issue. You gotta' try 'em before you buy, though. One man's perfect guitar is another man's boat paddle...

Here's an alternative

While I agree that the JV Strat is an excellent axe, I'm not sure that you can find one in your price range. As an interesting alternative, Check out G&L's new "Tribute" series. They're imported but use the same pickups as the US models. The QC is supposed to be second to none. MF is selling them for $399.
