Squier woes

So I've got this MIM 1998 Squier Standard Strat. It plays great, I've replaced the electronics and slapped some locking tuners on it and stays in tune really well.

The last thing I need to replace is the bridge. The string and post spacings are 2-1/8" so Callaham is out since their mexican kit is 2-1/16". And Wilkinson suppliers almost NEVER advertise the string spacing on the bridges they carry unless it says "Vintage Spaced", which is obviously out of the question.

I would really like to upgrade the bridge. Specifically the tone sucking zinc block and saddles. If anyone knows of a 2-1/8" spaced trem, preferably vintage-style, please let me know.

contact Mike or Chris Rice. They are excellent builders and would know what you need.

I feel like a moron saying this, but -- I took a few more measurements and it is actually 2-1/16". So I'm going with the Callaham mexican upgrade kit. Picking up a base plate for the bridge pup too.

Thanks for the advice anyway, though.

I see no reason change out a Squier Tele bridge, unless you wanted the aesthetics of a vintage ashtray bridge, and then you've got some work cut out. The standard six saddle Squier bridge works and sounds just fine, and I doubt in a blindfold taste test you'd tell the Squier bridge apart from any six saddle string thru replacement. I'd rather put my Squier upgrade dollars into the neck, tuners, engines, pots, switch and jack. YMMV.

Oh, no this is a Strat. I'd like a steel block and a pop-in arm that will fit 2-1/16".

The current saddles and block are zinc, and just aren't doing it for me.

Everything else has already been replaced. Except the neck, because I actually really like it.

Doh, yeah, right - this is the Srat sub-forum - hey, I'm old and getting more senile by the minute.

OK, same applies for me and Squier Strat bridges (standard or Affinity) - I like'em, the saddles are solid and I could care less if the block was made from melted down refrigerator emblems. My highly tweaked Squier Affinity Strat (body, bridge, pickguard, jack plate and strap buttons are all that's left from the original $120 guitar) ... and yes, it plays and sings like you really won't believe 'til ya wrap yer hands and ears around it ...

Andre' at the recording studio yesterday, with his Squier Affinity Strat ...
