Looking for a good budget Strat

Hi,

What's the "best" Strat below $600? Is it the Classic Vibe like with Teles? I'm playing rock/blues songs. What's your opinion? Thank you.

Cheers

Used mum classic series. My dad just picked up a used 60s something mim strat that plays great and sounds wonderful. He loves it, and has been playing strats for 40+ years

For 600 hundred, if you keep your eyes open, you can buy an American Strat.

Yup. Be patient and you will find an american standard for $600. I think that thats actually about what they are worth used even tho most people tend to think the Strat they paid $1000 for new is still worth that much. Lol

I think that depends in where you are. Ive never seen an american anything, telecaster/stratocaster/etc, under $900. Even the used MIM's go for more than $500 on a regular basis.

With the CV tele that I have, Id keep my eyes open for a CV. Personally, I think these are amazing guitars for the money.

Here's an American Standard with 5 hours left on the auction, and a current high bid of $550. I found this one with a very simple search on eBay.

I think a sub-$600 American Strat is definitely a possibility.

G&L Tribute S-500, IMO. If you want traditional pickups instead of MFDs, there's the Legacy.

I've tried just about every kind of under $600 Strat out there. For my money, the MIM Strat standard is the best for the money. I greatly prefer MIM to Classic Vibe, but of course other people prefer the opposite.

As for used, you'll be lucky to find a US Standard used for $600 -- but an American Special (the one with the big headstock) often goes for around that.

G & Ls are okay as someone mentioned and worth keeping an eye out for used. LTD (by ESP) make a high quality Strat copy that goes for around $350 new and can be bought for a song second hand.

Unless you need it to say "fender" on the headstock, this is almost unanimously agreed to be the best cost effective strat on the planet. Will go toe to toe with fender USA standards.

Oh, and you will be spending maybe 300$, not 600$.

I'll 2nd the ESP. I've got the ESP LTD ST203 and utility is decidedly a better "Strat" thaN my 1994 American std or the classic vibe I had. I bought my ESP new for $350 and feel it was more than worth it. The only change I'd like to Mahle is a full sized trem block.

That AmStd sold for $550 - just one bid. There are definitely good deals out there.

I looked at the sold listings on strats on ebay. There are a lot, many with case, that have sold for between 400-600, some even less if beat up, parts upgraded, etc.

I would buy a later Japanese Strat before a MIA should be able to find one below $600. MIJ Squiers are an even bigger bang for your buck.

The new MIM Strats are very nice.

A used one can be bought for a song, and you can mod it to be anything you'd like it to be.

Think about what you want in a strat as well.

You should be able to get into something like a used Highway One or maybe American Special. But also, there are some wonderful MIM strats like the classic series already mentioned--and consider some of the artist models like the Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Cray (if you might like a hardtail).

Maybe a used Road Worn? They were selling new Road Worn Player series strats for $500-600 new very recently.

Good luck,
George

Go have fun shopping for a new MIM. I love mine and you could test a lot of them to find one with the right mojo.

I buy mexi strats and mod them, I see them on C L for around 200 sometimes. Those classic vibe squires are awsome though, and they come with tonerider pups. But I agree 600 and some dilligence could get an american strat. The nice thing about sticking with fender of some kind is if you want to mod or even get a pickgaurd things will fit.
