Texas Special Stratocaster

It appears that Fender is no longer manufacturing the Texas Special Guitar (although they still sell the pickups).

Can anyone confirm this?

Does this make an existing guitar worth more?

Thanks. Tony

Tony,

The Texas Special Strat (along with the Texas Special Fat Strat and the Double Fat Strat) were all discontinued in July 2003. The humbucker-equipped versions were replaced by the Strat HSS and the Strat HH with the S-1 switching, but I don't think there was ever a replacement for the S/S/S Texas Special.

There was a photo in the 2004 Fender Frontline of an S/S/S American Series Strat with the Tex-Mex pickups from the Jimmie Vaughn Strat, but I don't think it was ever on any 2004 price list - although it might have been sold from July through Decemter 2003.

These were made in fairly large quantities, so I don't think they would escalate in value from being discontinued. I believe these always sold for a few dollars more than the basic American Series of the same year, and I would expect that to hold true on the used market. However, 25-30 years from now who knows.
