ProTone on it's way.
Just picked up a nice trans blue Korean ProTone, I think people are finally realizing why they were dis-continued after only 2 years. The blue one's look really cool when they begin changing to green. Any other ProTone lovers out there?

I just got one in olympic white with rosewood board, tortoise guard upgraded with EMGs. It plays really well and sounds terrific! I also built a tele with a protone neck, great as well. Good luck with yours....

I had a blonde one (slightly transluscent under the right lighting).
It was a very nice guitar. It came with 500k pots in it that made it too bright. I replaced them with 250k pots for a huge improvement. It had alnico magnet pickups that were very low powered and very nice sounding. The only negative was the thin neck. I like them a little thicker.

Colorado....
While I don't know if neck radius were options on the ProTone....the person I bought it from told me that the neck is bigger on this particular ProTone. He claims that the only mods are pots, switch, wiring....the usual mods to the Asian guitars. I should be getting the guitar today so I'll have to check the radius. The previous ProTone I had had a very comfortable neck on it. Does anyone know if different neck sizes were available on the ProTones?

Well, FedEx delivered the ProTone yesterday and the neck is a far cry from pencil thin. I don't have a guage to meausure but it is a fairly wide, thick neck. I guess I answered my own question. They must have made different size necks on the ProTones. While I haven't played the guitar yet (letting it slooowly warm up to room temperature) the once trans blue has changed to a trans green. Looks really cool with the gold hardware. Someday I'll master the pic thing.

I got one of those a couple of months back. My first strat actually. Never, ever played a strat that "spoke" to me until I played this. Mine is the vintage see-thru cream colored ash body w/ the aged plastic parts. Very good guitar. My neck is a little smaller than a MIM, but the fretboard is plenty wide and flatter it seems. Not a pencil neck, but for some it might be. What I really love is the lower output pickups...very smooth and balanced. They sound like higher end units rather than something typically stuck in an Asian guitar.
I snagged it for less than $150 with a G&L case. Couldn't be happier. |
