SCNs vs. N3s
How do they compare? I just played a 2006 American Deluxe and the SCNs sounded great. Do the N3s in the new Deluxes sound as good?

Tough question. It's hard to compare pickups that are in two different guitars, since there's a list of variables as long as your arm: different strings, different amps, tubes, speakers, different tone and volume adjustments, etc. so that even hearing a difference when A/B-in them might not tell you much about the pickups themselves.
My 2006 Deluxe Ash Tele with the SCN pickups always sounded great to me, and recently, I moved the SCN pickups and electronics into a Partscaster tele (walnut body, thicker neck, and Wilkinson bridge). It still sounds great. My take on it is that to me, the SCNs sound great. So whether the question of N3s sound as good as the SCNs will depend on some guesswork, and on the ear of the one deciding.
