Tele neck on a Strat; history of

I think I've just found 1965: "Beach Ball" was on TCM the other night. Quite a cast, actually. The Supremes stuff looked sung to backing tracks with a movie band miming, but the Walker Brothers' "Jerk" looked live.

But I digress. In the shot, John Walker was playing a Strat with a blonde Tele neck, and there was just one tiny shot where you could see the curved empty space in the pocket.

There's other examples, perhaps people could chime in.

Joe Perry played a Stratorat in the late 70s that was a lefty Strat body flipped with a tele neck on it.

The original guitarist with Steppenwolf played a Strat with Tele neck when I
saw them live in '68.

One of my favorite local players here, and a dear friend, has a '62 Strat with a '68 Tele neck. It's been that way since '68.

I used to play WAY back in the day with a guy who had a Tele, with a Coronado neck on it. THAT was weird, but felt and sounded great.

Ian Moore's beat up black Strat has a Tele neck.
Don't know the particulars, but it's sounds and plays great.

I vaguely remember seeing a photo of Tommy Bolin with a sunburst Strat which had a Tele (or maybe Broadcaster) neck.

I found this but it isn't the sunburst I remember. But then again it was in Kerrang! 30 years ago...

... And I've just remembered the Cheapocaster project I started months ago which has a Squier Tele neck and the cheapest decent Strat body I could find. Must get that finished!

Are any modifications to the neck or pocket required to mate a Tele neck to a Strat body?

It'll bolt right up. There will be a gap at the butt end, but the mounting holes will match up fine.

I say you gotta round the butt of the Tele neck to get a nice fit.

Otherwise you get a Butcherbird kinda look I don't like.
