Tone control on the bridge pickup

I'm sure Eric Johnson didn't invent the idea, but his signature strat comes with this feature. I didn't know what I was missing but now I can't live without it. I just dial back the tone about half way, boost the mids and throw on a little compression - killer bridge tone to die for.

Absolutely. The bridge is too spikey without it. Can't understand why it wasn't designed like that from the get go.

The single best "mod" you can do on a Strat. And it's free!

FYI - I think the American Special Strats have the tone control wired to the bridge & neck pick-ups and leave the middle out.

Am Specials, yes with the Greasebucket Tone Circuit, and those with Delta Tone as well (American Standard ).

That's the ticket right there. Notch positions are quackier, great bridge tone, and the middle pickup sounds so nice without the tone pot on it.

I installed the blender set up which makes the middle knob a master tone control for all three pickups. The blender may not suit all strat players, but I'm in agreement that being able to mellow out that bridge sound is very useful. I like the no-load tone pots as well. For me it evens out the high end a bit across all the pups when turned all the way up.
