Two? Psh. My old mates strat has 3!
No volume, because the wires have either somehow managed to intersect or come away from their solder points. We are both awful with soldering irons and all things electronic, so we're leaving it to continue its little super tone knob escapade.

My personal 'strat' has a treble control and a bass control. When lil '59 is in SEries humbucking mode...think Les paul sonics---and I am pushing an amp, sometimes that bass cut allows me to eliminate some muddiness/increase the articulation of that overdriven signal.
Adn...not all STrats have two tone controls. Bill CArson, who was instrumental in advising LEo Fender and Co. on the design of the Strat, had his personal Strat built with only a volume and one tone...moving the volume knob away from the strings and thereby avoiding the problem of accidentally adjusting that volume. |

I just replaced the second (middle) tone control on my '62 AVRI with the Fralin blender pot. It mixes the neck and bridge pickups to any degree you like. It's a simple, worthwhile mod, but it won't take an ordinary Strat bridge p/u and turn it into Superman. For that you'll just need a different kind of pickup.

Hopefully you're joking.
Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, SRV, Guy, Cray and a few thousand other Strat players disagree with you.

Good point. I modded my Strats so that they have one tone knob (the middle knob) that functions with all pickup settings and the bottom most knob is a blender pot. Much better

Fender's original design was to have one tone knob for the neck pup and one knob for the middle pup, with the bridge pup being permanently "dimed" as far as tone was concerned. This was before the 5-way switch and was intended to allow a Strat player to cut through the band mix with his bridge pup for solos.
Many modern players like a little more control over this flat-out approach. Mine is wired so that the bottom tone control works on both the middle and bridge pups. A very common and incredibly easy mod.

I prefer a master tone/master volume setup on a strat with a killswitch or whatever you like in the other hole.

My strat is set up the same way. Master tone covers all three pickups, and the blender allows me to use bridge and neck together.

I have a slightly different take - using a 5-way super switch I have the center tone on the neck only, and the bottom tone on the bridge only, with the three middle positions not connected. I also use no-load tone pots. I leave the bridge tone always on about 7 to take a little off the top.

Does that mean they're twice as good as a Tele?
