Hamel Strat Pups on the way!

My Hamels for my Strat were mailed yesterday! I'll give a full report on Friday, after Band practice (may not have occasion to use them at band volume til then) but I'll give a full report.

Whatever Alan thinks the vintage DC is, I'll measure them when I get them, though they usually come marked.

With Alan, I don't ask, I just take his word for it. The man knows the real deal.

I'd be real interested to hear what you think.I was considering a set myself and would like to know how it turns out. How did you have him wind them?

I had 'im wind 'em like James Pennebaker's and Bill Hullett's pups. I don't know the exact values but these two and I are on the same page, in terms of tone. They are flat poles, not staggered.

They're here

And they're SWEET!

the thing that I always listen for is smoothness in the 4 position, because i use that a lot when playing slide. With EVERY other pickup I've ever used, including the Van Zandts, there's a graininess that grates on me.

With these, there's none of that. They're just sweet and smooth in every position I use (which I admit is 98 percent middle or 4 position). I am happy. I'll post a clip when I get something recorded. Maybe later this week.

I'm glad you like them. Would you say they are in the upper echelon of Strat pickups? I'd really like to hear 'em
when you get around to it!

I've used Fender CS '50s, Van Zandt "True Vintage," and Fralin Real '54s and these top them all.

I'm not as familiar with Strat pickups as I am with Tele pickups because I've only been a Strat player for about five years, while I've been a Tele player for more than 35 years.

But in terms of what I've used, these are the Crown Jewels of Strat pickups. Only the Fralins have come close to these and even those were "grainy" in the 4 compared to the Hamels.

EDIT: I got a chance to crank these babies and I'm sold for sure. Just nice and they overdrive GREAT on slide guitar.

Whoever thought you needed humbucking pickups or hot pickups for slide just weren't payin attention.

These things are GREAT!

I'm just the opposite, more familiar with Strat pickups than Teles. I'm trying to get a set of Hamel Strat pickups (some day!),just want to make sure they're worth it... Judging by the mass hysteria,I'd say they are! Congratulations!
