Ash Strat
Here's a couple of pics of a Strat I built a while ago. This poor body has had every pickup combination in it, couple of different necks, a battery box cut into it, a huge industrial pushpull pot that came with a pickguard I traded for needing a hole cut through the back, 2 different trems, maybe 4 pickguards etc.
This last incarnation is the same Mighty Mite ash body with an antique pine stain to darken/age it and a thin rub in coat of antique paste varnish. The neck is an Allparts V that I bought very badly reliced, cheap. I stripped to bare wood, darkened it with the pine stain, then a light coat of satin clear lacquer, and recrowned the frets. I like this neck so much, I bought another V for my pine Tele build. All the hardware is reliced, except in the pics new Wilkinson tuners are installed, I have a set of Fender reliced tuners to go on. I also modified the body to accept a Fender lefty trem. Pickguard is a '57 single ply 8 hole with Seymour Duncan Hot Texas Antiquity pickups, full size pots and Sprague orange drop. Pickup covers and knobs are cream, but show up white in the pics. I was very happy with the feel and sound of this guitar, but it was very heavy, even after cutting a swimming pool rout, and time for another change. I've sold the body and ordered an Arctic white light weight body from GFS, a Wilkinson trem and installed the pickups and electronics in a mint pickguard. The new hardware will need to be reliced but I won't do the body, I like aged hardware, but not reliced paint , even though I've done it, it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. I might wet sand the body to knock off the gloss, but can't say for sure until I it arrives. The mint guard, with cream cover and knobs on a white body should look nice. Hope the GFS body isn't a dissappointment! Part of the idea of building this was to have a guitar I didn't have to worry about, and it's actually very "freeing" having a "beater". |

Did you say the neck was pine? I was a carpenter for a while in my 20's and pine is one of the woods that move and move during different temperatures. That's not bad for a guitar neck?
