Fill up the cavity? on a humbucker-to-single coil pickup cha

Hello-

If I have a deep big rout, and want to put in a single coil sized humbucker pickup,

Do I need to do anything with that open space in the cavity under the pickup? Padding, foil, nothing?

I've seen alot of Strat guts that have nothing but bare wood/finish in their pickup routs. What if I leave the space alone ?

thanks

You don't have to do anything... but If you want' to do something anyway, then the correct treatment is a clean routing of the cavity and glueing in a correctly shaped block of wood (of a matching specie) and then reroute for a single coil PU and finishing the procedure with... errrhh... finish  .
