Two Humbucker Strat?

Saw this on Craig's List and was wondering what the heck it was. I've poked around a little here and on the web and I'm not finding much.
What do you think?

Looks like what is usually called a "Double Fat" or "Big Apple" strat, made in the '90s-'00s.
Not the typical strat tone, but great rock. I have a hardtail version, though it's seen better days.

Heck, did you have to go to these lengths to get a reliced guitar?

Seriously, I've been fancying putting together a strat with 2 humbuckers and doing the Peter Green mod to the neck pup. I think that would be better than a Les Paul for me.

Anyone seen the humbucker equipped strat that Andy Fairweather Low plays? The neck pup seems to be almost in the middle position rather than up at the neck. Would this make any tonal differences, do you think?

Most strats are routed for HSH anyway these days.
If it isnt a Big Apple it could just be a standard that someone has fitted an aftermarket guard to and dropped in the buckers.

Nice guitars. I will one day own a 2 HB Strat. I will tune it to Eb and rock out on it.

Looks damn cool like that! Gives it true character. A bit like a couple guitars that I've seen Tracy G use.

I personally am not a fan of having two humbuckers on a Fender Stratocaster but some people like the tone. Maybe it suites some people better to do that than to go for a Les Paul setup.

I believe an American Hardtail Standard Stratocaster was released for a number of years. I remember reading about them and thinking that was cool.

Nah Mate, but I get that a lot!
This screamer has a 3 way switch with push/pull pots to split both the neck & bridge into single coil tones.

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing but with the reversed neck pup with out of phase magnets - probably going for either Seymour Duncans or Bareknuckle pickups.

What sort of tones do you get out of that baby? Is it anywhere close to Les Paul territory?

NICE!!!

Mine is made from Allparts fat neck + Mighty Might ash body + Fender Bridge and tuners + some leftover humbuckers. Black pickguard might look better...

Jim Herring uses a Strat with two humbuckers. He's got great tone.

Just to add a thought: IF you try the "Peter Green Mod" (pups out of phase) with only a master volume, you will be disappointed.

The most important (and MOST OVERLOOKED) part of PG's tone is that he was able to use his Les Paul's independent volumes to balance between the two pickups, rolling one or the other pickup's volume back to get away from the typical nasally thin tone you get when running pups out of phase.

If you try this on a Strat, be sure that you use the traditional three-knob layout, and set it up with two volumes and a master tone.
