teflon coated 99.9% silver wire?

Anyone tried this stuff before? I would like to hear from a few on this.

I've been reading up on it, and wanted some other opinions.

I'll be replacing the thick vintage cloth stuff that's in one of my guitars...my deluxe v neck strat.

Any thoughts? Here's the link to check it out.

Teflon is a great coating that is tough and very tolerant of heat and chemical exposure. It is often used in applications where those characteristics are necessary. It is however harder to work with in that it is difficult to strip. Not a desirable trait when you are working with short wires tied to delicate switch pins.

Silver wire has it's own set of issues personally I would prefer good old tinned copper wire.

I would choose something different and way less expensive.

Teflon insulated pure-ish silver wire might be useful if you're using superconducting magnets in your pickups and you also expect searing temperatures in the body cavities. Otherwise you won't experience any benefits from it.

Shielding the guitar gives a much bigger bang for the buck than changing the hookup wire.

I couldn't see your link, but...

I use 22awg teflon pre-tinned wire. I bought two spools for cheap (one black and one white) on fleebay a few yrs ago.

Here is why I use the teflon wire:
1) Teflon doesn't melt like plastic insulation: I'm not very good at soldering, and the teflon was much better for me.

2) The teflon wire is much thinner than the vintage wire, and plastic MIM hookup wire. This actually made for much neater wiring jobs. Especially since I use quick disconnects on all my pups and wiring.

3) It was cheap... 100ft spool for like < $10 on ebay (a few yrs ago). 100ft will last you and all your buddies several life times of guitar wiring bliss.

4) And most importanly.... the tone of teflon makes me sound exactly like SRV!!!

Surely you jest....It must have something to do with your skills as as player?

Here's that link again.

A tenth or two of an ohm in hookup wire is not going to make any discernible difference when the wire is in series with a pickup in the thousands of ohms. Save the silver for vamps.

silver wire

There was a bid to do about this a few years ago, lot's of debate, people spend a lot of money modding guitars, so go for it if you have the money and are that curious, that's the only way you'd know for sure.
But personally I don't think the small amount of wire used to hook up a guitar would make much if any audible difference.
On the other hand using a real good cable from your guitar to amp can make a difference that you can hear.

I wouldn't mind the Swedish Bikini Team.....

I agree with you Ringo. A good cable between the guitar and amp is a must.

Maybe I'll try the iridium. Did you see the price of that stuff?

I ordered a roll of silver wire. See how it goes.
