Looking at Getting a Strat

Ok! I was looking at 2 different strats, a 09 Highway one ($760.00 can) and the MIM Players Deluxe ($799.00 can). Both Sunburst, with rosewood! I am leaving this wide open so what opinions do we have on each based on value and quality.

Thanks

For $1100 canooks you get an American Standard Strat in US if you find a good dealer. If you can avoid taxes etc its not much more to pay. Remember you get the case and goodies as well.

I did a quick check of the Players Deluxe and it looks really sharp when compared to the Highway one! Don't know about those noiseless pickups!! I am going to try to demo the both on the weekend!

Did you consider the Classic Player series? When I bought my CP60 Strat I had to choose between that and a Highway One, and the Classic Player was so much more vintage sounding and looking, and much more versatile.

Tried out both of them this afternoon and the Players Deluxe with the Vintage Noiseless was really nice, very clean I am leaning towards this over the Highway One! The Highway one sounded pretty sweet also, but I just can't seem to get cosy with the Highway's Big Head Stock and also most white neck!

There are a lot of used American and American Deluxe Strats in in varying degrees of condition from very good to like new in your price range. You just have to be a little patient and you can get the one that's right for you.

Most important is how it feels and how it sounds. Even line produced guitars all have a feel of their own. I would narrow your search down to the excact type you want and then zoom in on the one that feels and sounds the best for the application you have in mind.

The JV Strat is a great guitar. You owe it to yourself to check one out before buying.

They are excellent IMO, great neck, great pickups, and US Vintage hardware.

The Squier CV Strats are a great value too, they have some Artist Models I'm surprised I haven't heard more buzz about, this Fiesta Red CV Artist model is really cool.

American Standard Strat VS the other 2 mentioned, one should point out the 2 post bridge/trem VS the 6 screw vintage. I personally feel the 6 screw trem with the big steel block sounds the way [for me] a 60s Strat should. Nothing wrong with the 2 post, but I started with one and wound up with with the vintage Trem and 6k ish Start Pups. I also had the Vintage Noisless PUPs in my 97 2 poster TexSpec Strat and they seemed thin to me, but I liked them fine. I liked the TexSpec for about 3 days mself. I wound up with 57/62s and would like to at least give the 69s a chance for a while myself. ;) blah blah..

Look for used if you can.
Don't know what is available locally for you.

Check out
http://www.capsulemusic.com/retail/guitars.asp
in Toronto

Mostly higher end used but a great shop and the good stuff seems to go quick.
check every day

Saw a Jimmy Vaughn a couple of weeks ago for $595 CDN ( I think)

Yes the Tex Mex's are nice! My son has them in a parts caster (Korean body / MM Neck). They have lots of bite and are a pretty good value!

If you are still looking for strats i'd advice you to check out the recent deluxe lonestars, seems to be fun guitars, if you can get one in your hands, try it out!
