Strat tone help
Hello, I am thinking of taking out the pups in my Strat that are all singles and adding a ssh config from a Mexican strat I used to have. Thing is I want to be able to adjust for tone on the Humbucker. Is there some kind of jumper I can solder in place on the switch and tone control? thanks
PS I havent had the SSH config in a couple of years but I recall that I couldn't adjust for tone on the bridge hb. |

Just a matter of switching a wire
and doing a jumper if you want the mid and neck together for tone, That's the jumper in step 2, if you don't do that there will be no tone of the middle pup. There is a common tone mod : http://soundlogic-usa.com/c38.html |

Yep looked at that and its not the wiring diag. that looks like my ssh config. Just went to the fender site so I could copy it but it won't let me as I would have posted it here if I could. Can't I just put a jumper between where the humbucker solders to the vol pot and connect it to the bridge tone pot? Has anybody done this I wonder? thanks for the info though. It might work like in the diag. I am just concerned my wiring doesn't look like that. thanks

Cut and paste just the link from Fender then.
If you solder a wire from the vol pot (you only have one right ?) to a tone pot, ALL the pickups will be effected by that tone control, as well as the other. ( if the guitar would have more than one) >where the humbucker solders to the vol pot < Doesn't the HB go to the switch ? |

Oh ya that's got the split coil deal.
Take (remove) the wire on the switch, that runs from the bottom tone pot to the switch, and solder it with the wire on the top left (green wire that comes from the HB). IF you want tone control on the middle ( as now only the neck will have tone control with the upper tone pot) jumper the two middle lugs on the left side of the switch. I've described per the pickguard part of the diagram. See how that works. Only problem is the bridge is now on a 250K tone pot. If it makes the bridge too dark, too fast when you turn the tone you may have to go to a 500K tone pot there. First though if you have a .022 µF tone cap (like the diagram) you could cut that wire that goes from the middle terminal on the bottom tone pot ( that leads to the cap on the middle tone pot) and put a .01 cap there on the bottom (bridge) tone pot, that would help it not be so dark when you turn the tone down for the bridge. You see, normally the two tone pots SHARE the cap. You may need to have a different ( lesser value, separate) cap on your bridge tone pot because of the HB. Very good info. Do you mean just elimate the larger cap and solder a smaller value cap like you suggested in place. Or have them both there but grounded to the back of each tone pot respectively. the thanks a ton

Yep Each pot to have it's OWN CAPACITOR cut the wire that goes from one pot to the other. That is the middle terminal of the bottom pot to the right terminal on the upper tone pot. The upper pot will retain the cap that's connected there. Then you will solder one capacitor ( the lesser value one for the bridge naturaly) lead to the bottom pots middle terminal and the other cap lead to ground. and try not to burn yourself........it's a bugger to play then |
