whammy bar thread size???
I purchased a 1997 USA fender stratocaster and it came with a case and whammy bar...The whammy bar was not installed on the guitar when I purchased it...I just tried to install the whammy bar and it will not go into the bridge plate hole so I deceided to take the bridge apart to see if it was just a missaligned hole or??? but after I got the bridge plate off I found that the thread size was much smaller then the whammy bar...Anyone know what the correct size the whammy bar hole/threads should be??? Thanks!

Thanks for the info
Thanks for the info! Well after I took the bridge apart and found out that the whammy bar that came with the guitar was 6mm I decided to redrill the spring block and retap it to fit the 6mm whammy...Everything was going good untill the tap broke off deep into the block...after several attemps to remove the broken tap with the tap extractors I had I gave up and just put the bridge back together...I will buy another spring block and a new whammy bar to fit...I am really not happy with the bridge set up that came with the guitar as I assume it is stock...It was set up as a floating system...Do you have any suggestions on what would be a better set up before I buy a new spring block??? Thanks!!!

Oh, bummer
>I am really not happy with the bridge set up that came with the guitar as I assume it is stock ...It was set up as a floating system...< That's what a Jazzmaster Tremolo is "floating". I don't understand why you say >It was set up as a floating system< By that do you mean it will go up AND down with the arm ? >Do you have any suggestions on what would be a better set up before I buy a new spring block??? < What is it you are looking for exacaly? How do you want it to work? synchronised tremolo (Stratocaster) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Fe...tentsketch.png |

Your very welcome.
That's a good way to go, cranking the springs some more. With a little work they will hold tune real well. Check my post here, 7th one down: http://www.strat-talk.com/forum/stra...ling-trem.html If you are not ever going to use the trem anyway, ( like a "hardtail") do a search for blocking the trem( back with a block of wood or something) |

I had a friend of mine come down and try the stratocaster out and I was just blown away...The bridge does need adjusted up a little but the strat itself was just unbelievable...This guy knows how to play and it held up very well...I have a fender roc pro 1000 and it sounded unbelievable...This guy can play!!! But the problem is every time I ask him about the adjustments he just seems ??? I am always open suggestions so if you have any please let me know....Thanks!!!
