Eric Clapton/Buddy Guy Mid Boost Kit?
Hey Guys,
Called the Eric Clapton Mid Boost Kit, I have a 1997 USA Strat Plus on the way with 3 Gold Lace Pickups. Now instead of replacing the pickups, I thought make them better more versatile. I was just wondering if anyone had installed this Mid Boost Kit. Seems like a great thing, an extra 25db of boost, a TBX tone control. I see no disadvantage, as I still retain the TBX Pot on my Strat Plus and end up with a extra Gain pot. Only downside is replacing the battery every 6/12 months. If anyone has any experience please let me know. I am led to believe that Mid boost card will fit inside a Strat Cavity with no mods, also the battery fits next to the 5 way switch. But would like to hear from actually members who have it or removed it. Many Thanks, Gezza. |

I was thinking about doing it to one of my Strats but never got around to it. I do have it in my Clapton and I like it.
Here is a link that describes the installation process. It debunks the myth that you have to have Fender Noiseless pups to make it wotk, too. Have fun. http://www.areyouexperienced.net/fen..._boost_kit.htm

I was always a big fan of the Clapton setup. It has a lot of gain but still can sound vintage. I think it is the most versatile Strat on the market. I have the Lace pickup version. The active board in my guitar is pretty big and mounted in a large route to the right of the pickups, plus the 9V battery is mounted under the trem cover. The input jack route is also different to accept a battery on-off style input jack. The components in my Clapton model would not fit in a standard Strat routed body.

Ya know, I was thinking about installing that kit too. Then someone turned me on to the Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster, and I haven't looked back since.

Hi Guys,
That Seymour Pickup Booster, looks like the Eric Clapton Boost in a box. The frequency knob would work like the TBX Knob. But, nothing beats having that on your guitar. Not having to bend over to adjust the knobs. Being able to adjust your sound on the fly and to your liking. Most pedals are set and forget. But the Mid Boost is adjust while you're playing and to have the freedom to adjust it to your tone. I'm sure it is a great pedal and it sounds pretty good. I have 2 different boost pedals on my pedalboard, so perhaps I can remove a few, after I install the EC Boost Kit. I let you guys know. Thanks, Gezza. |
