I'd need to see strats with rosewood boards.
I'm going to be building myself a 12 string strat. I'm going with a rosewood fretboard, which is a departure from my usual preference for strats and teles, of maple only.
But it puts a hitch-in-my-get-along as it leaves me at a total loss as to what color I want to paint the guitar (I don't want to do natural on this build). For me, with a maple neck, just about every color looks good, but with the rosewood board, not so sure. I'm leaning towards either candy apple red or an almond color, but I can't decide, so I figured it's time to look at a lot of pictures. So please post a bunch of pics of strats with rosewood fretboards ("real life" pics please, not stock pics, we all know how different that can be). Thanks. |

Some colors that look good with rosewood fretboards:
Sunburst Red White Surf or Seafoam Green Candy apple red would look great imo.

The ever popular and most boring - black/white. (sold it)
![]() "It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black." ![]() My favorite rosewood Strat, is actually a Sonic Blue Mustang. (This would be great with a cream/parchment pg)

+1 on Sonic Blue with rosewood.
My MIM strat was originally Candy Apple Red and after having it for several years I got really bored with that colour. Stripped it right back earlier this year and painted it myself with rattle cans. It came out pretty well although I say so myself!! I think it's slightly darker than Sonic Blue but not quite as dark as Daphne Blue. Having said that, I've seen various photos of Sonic Blue gats and they all seem to be different. Whether it's the lighting or actual paint itself, I'm not sure. The pickguard is the original 3 ply white which has slightly yellowed over the years and goes well with this colour, I think. Make sure you use a white or very light grey undercoat though so that when you get the nicks and wear on it, the undercoat shows through in an authentic way.

That's another "strat hangup" I had, always preferred the headstock be natural, but on that CAR one, and the blue 12 string strats Fender has now, the matching headstock looks good. |

Thought I'd add this because all Rosewood is not created the same . Walnut/Madagascar Rosewood combo . Gotta look close to see that it is not a one piece .
FWIW , the wrong photo came up . I will try again . There, that should be better . Sorry about that .

Not for me
Try a Google search (Images) on "Gibson SG". You will get a bunch of pictures that look like what you are building. At least that's what it looks like to me. Then what do I know?
It does not look bad, it just looks like a Strat dressed up like a Gibson. No harm no foul, just my opinion. Lost_N_Austin

Well, before I saw that one, I was pretty much thinking I was going to do it like the red 12 string "Jahmbie" posted earlier, CAR, white guard with cream pup covers and controls - think I'm going to go back to that. |

Here's my 2005 Olympic White American Series Strat.
![]() And here's a Shell Pink Strat that I wish I owned. ![]() Lake Placid Blue would also look great with a rosewood board.

-Well, here's my late addition to the party. Stripped and refinished by yours truly after someone botched a spray job. First try of French polishing. Not the best in the world but she looks pretty good to me.
