I want a new Strat

I already have a 1990 MIA Strat with the 2-point trem, etc. Basically I don't like the thin modern necks.

I know I can get a Warmoth Boatneck, etc... but I'd rather just get a whole new axe.

What modesl from the factory come with fatter necks. Prefer a rosewood board.

If I were to try to sell the 1990 MIA, which is in vg+ shape, what are those going for these days, I have no idea?

Thanks!

PS - forgot to mention... Went into the local GC yesterday to look around. Total waste of time. Only lower priced instruments in stock, no reissues, EJ, etc, and too much noise from teenagers trying to get the deadliest death tone.

John, that's just it.

FMIC does not offer any Warmoth Boatneck sized necks on Strats. The Jeff Beck is the closest.

Boris, thanks for the response. Perhaps I was not clear, I'm not looking for a "boatneck" per-se, just something fatter than the thin modern neck on my 1990. Also looking for a bit fatter more "Stratty" tone. My 1990 just sounds thin and does not have that thick chunky low end. I use big strings but that doesn't help.

I have played the EJ model and I did like that neck. Have not tried the JB model.

I think a 1990 MIA would be sell somewhere between $600-$800.

Try the SRV. That has a big neck.

I thought of that, BUT, I really don't like the sound of those things. I played one and just could not pull a decent tone out of it. I guess those Texas Special pups just don't ring my bell. Plus I don't want an instrument with someone else's initials on the pick guard or a reverse tremolo.

Shoot, maybe I should just bite the bullet and build a partocaster.

Does anyone know someone who does custom partocaster builds?

... or you could buy a Stevie Ray Vaughan strat neck off ebay and put it on your strat... there are 4 right now, all in the $500 range.

[edit] but now I see you'd rather buy a complete guitar. My bad!

Do you need a tremolo? The robert cray has a nice thick neck, fantastic pickups and it's cheapish.

I'm really liking my EJ strat.

It has a nice thick (but not chunky neck) if you dont mind the 12" radius on the fretboard. Probably my favorite neck now. Warning though.. the nitro can get a little sticky, nothing a quick wipedown on a cloth won't fix though.

I picked my up for about $1200 used (mint with all the case candy)

There's a great review of the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Strat somewhere here (do a search) by one of our members. He measured the neck at just a hair OVER 1" thick at the 12th fret. They sell for $869.

I don't mind the flatter neck radious at all, I also play Gibsons. I played an EJ once and it felt very nice in my hands.

+1 on the Robert Cray. But like Stuco says, keep in mind that it's a hardtail...

Bear in mind that it's a 7.5" radius neck (at least mine is). Comfortable but if you're a big bender then you might need to set the action higher than normal.
