Do non-white pickguards suit black/maple Strats?

I was wondering about trying a black 3-ply guard on my CJ 54 Strat... anyone got pics of their black Strat with maple neck and any non-white guard? The single ply Gilmour look doesn't appeal...

I've seen Fender Mint Green guards with this combo. Nice;

Seen this Gold anodized guard with this combo. Beautiful; and

And I've seen some tort guards that looked good like that.

I apologize for no pictures, but my brother and I have agreed, black body and maple neck is "his" territory and I'm supposed to stay out of it.

I don't find the 3 ply looks much different in that context; maybe not as good as the scuffed up old black single ply.

black/white/black looks good as well. that's what I have on my mini strat, although i didn't route the 45 degree bevel on the guard because I WAS going more for the Gilmour look

however, this will end up with a different neck, with a rosewood board

I did a Gilmour Strat clone and ALSO didn't like the single-ply black guard, so I did a 3-ply, and I like the pinstripe effect. Just enough to be interesting. But a tortoise or gold guard looks nice too.

When I first saw this thread title I wondered how long it would be before someone suggested tortoise. Turned out to be the very first response...

No man, tortoise, in my book, has always been SO badass! It looks SUPER on sunburst (the late-70's Fender sacrilege of black guards on sunburst is almost unforgivable), but also black, white/off-white and Lake Placid Blue.

I would think that either a white pearloid or a black pearloid pickguard would look great on a black/maple Strat. Anyone have a photo of either of those?

I like that look myself, here's a video of Robbie Blunt playing what looks like a late 70's Strat in that color combo. I keep thinking about building one like this, might not be everyones cup of tea though.

Here's a pic to showcase the "pinstripe" effect of the 3-ply B/W/B guard on black. I really like it. I've thought of tortoise, but I really wanted the Gilmour vibe, just not so plain-looking. In addition, because the blacks don't EXACTLY match, it provides a dividing line.

Was any more discussion really required after this photo was posted??? Something about white knobs, p'up covers, and switches on anodized gold just knocks me out.

Sadly, the only color I don't think works with anodized gold is the one I own: Vintage White/'Nana Puddin'.

Yes!

Maple neck, black body, three-ply black pickguard is probably one of my favourite stratocaster combinations!

What, no gold screws or tuners??? If you're gonna go, better go all the way!

Now, about those Les Paul knobs...

I hear ya.

Screws are indeed now gold, plus gold schaller tuners.
I just love the speed knobs...I know it's a crime, but I felt compelled.

Here's another vote for a darkish tortoise shell guard.

For me, the pickup covers need to match the pickguard as closely as possible.

When they're 'light-dark' the pickups stand out too much, and take away and distract too much from the beauty of the Strat shape.

Don't worry, this one is getting played a lot. Lonestar Strat pickup assembly installed - Texas Specials in mid/neck; Duncan Pearly Gates Plus in bridge. Steel saddles and big steel block from GFS. Amazing sounding and playing guitar.

Metro, which type of white are your pup covers, knobs and switch tip?

I was thinking about Creme accessories with a gold pickguard.

On a Candy Apple Red Strat, actually.

Also, is your PG the expensive Gold plastic one, or the less expensive, but not inexpensive Aluminum (Gold Anodized) one?

Much obliged.
