I've left the Club
I've thought about it for a while now and well.....I'm gone.
Sold my 2006 AVRI 62 FSR Strat and got me a 1996 Les Paul Standard. I'll miss you all..... |

That was funny. Thanks for making me laugh.
I am sitting here pondering a similar dilemma, I've got a cheap but otherwise good Indo strat that somebody wants me to trade some gear for. Since I recently picked up a 2000 CIJ Custom Tele and have another good backup, I'm thinking I can do without it. Dropped a hotrails in the bridge of the tele, and with the neck HB too, it gets a nice chunky tone that is a little smoother to me than a LP. To me, going strat to LP is like trading a samurai sword for a chainsaw. But hey, sometimes you need a chainsaw to get the job done right. |

That's right - get it out of your system. Then, when you discover that the Paul has far more bad points than good, you'll discover the - Telecaster/ Esquire! Then you would have arrived home!
Good luck. |

The Strat is gone and I'm all OK with that. My Tele shall never leave my side...never! |

He's keeping the Tele, and so would I, just choosing between a Strat and a Tele. Now, were he to need another Strat, I'd accept something in trade. I don't know. Maybe 2 nice Les Pauls?

You may have left the club, but that sound ain't leavin' you.
Enjoy your LP journey. Sometimes we need to explore other options before we appreciate things to their fullest. At least you can say "been there-done that" in the future......with a huge collection of Tele's behind you!!!

In the future there is a plan to find a reasonably priced comfortable tele and put in twin humbuckers. In the future....not right now. |

Do yourself a favor; get another Strat to go with that beautiful LP. There's no law saying you can't have both. Sometimes, nothin' will do but an LP, other times, it's gotta be a Strat.

Ahh, now I understand ya; I didn't read close enough. You still got a Tele. ok. That makes sense.....but that "sound" playing in my head is a Tele. I did enjoy my time with a coupla LP's- very seductive tones. But I couldn't make it sound like a fight between a rabid duck and a dying cat. A Tele can do that.

I would say thanks but apart from a polish I can't lay any claim to its beauty.....and it is a beauty!
It just begs to be played. I think I worked out what is was I didn't like about the 62 AVRI FSR. It had slightly bigger frets than my tele and I never gelled with them. And I didn't really like the tone. Oh well....I guess, yes, I tried and didn't like. But I do so love the Les Paul. |

whatever inspires you
I always used to say no self respecting guitar player can be such unless he owns a Les Paul.
I have one, but the Strat is my #1. good move

That's a fine looking LP, you got there Vintage.
I take turns when I think I have to have one - like when I'm in a Peter Green, Neil Young or ZZ Top mood. But then I pick up one of my strats or tele and think to myself, "hey, I love these guitars. If I got another one, then I wouldn't play these as much as I do now and that'd be a shame." But one day I might just get me an LP - but I'd have to do the Peter Green mod to the neck pup cos that's the one tone that's to die for in an LP.

Enjoy your flirtation with the LP sound, but joking aside, you will likely be back squarely in the Fender camp.
I enjoy picking up my LP and SG guitars (albeit clones) on occasion myself. However the Strat and Tele are where it is really at 90% of the time musically. That sweet clarity of tone and articulation inherent in the single coil/Fender combo just can't be beat. |

What did you start on? I suspect that might have some bearing on it.
I left strats for a while (about 10 years) but they are what kicked it off for me (I'm watching a dvd of Rory Gallagher in 1976 at the moment). If you managed to bond with a strat - and I know lots of people who don't - you'll always be back one day, you'll have to have one Right at the moment my favourites are a strat I've just bought and an SG, closely followed by a bunch of teles eyeing me suspiciously whenever I pick up the others... There's also a Les Paul there, she's gorgeous, but she's more of a luxury item (and tone) for me... If I had to have just one, it ought to be a tele for it's versatility.. but I'd pick the strat for the certain something it gives me. It's everyone's personal journey, though. And that LP looks mighty fine |

I did the Epi thing as well. Years ago I was happily gigging an Epi LP and SG. Then when I got back into making music, but home use only, I started switching pickups (Bare Knuckles in my case). Quite early on I found that the Epi LP wasn't up to what I was after, so I went the Japanese Tokai Love Rock route, I wasn't prepared to go Gibson at that stage - very happy with that, but don't tend to play LP that often at the moment. Then recently I realised the Epi SG wasn't quite where it's at either, but my "Fender" snobbery seems to have finally reached the "Gibson" side now Basically I'm a Fender man, strat being my first love, tele close second, but I came to that late. On the "dark" side, I think I'm an SG player (although I do have a Gibson Explorer that I flirt with as well). With a Les Paul, I love the look, the things it implies, and so on... but strap it on, and I personally feel a bit limited in what I can play Luckily, PRSs etc leave me a little cold, but I daren't start exploring Gretsch (a whole new avenue of expenditure, I fear...) Good luck with your Les Paul |
