What finish is this?

I just got back from a buddy's house where he showed my his latest pawn shop prize which is this MIM Strat. I dont' think I've ever seen this finish before. It's like a metalic red or candy apple red but it's not shiney, sort of a flat red finish in a way. The guitar's in new shape and even had the film on the pickguard and back plate. He said he'd let me have it for $200 with a gig bag which seems like a pretty good deal. Anyone know what the finish might be called?...........JH in Va.

I'm guessing it's satin candy apple red. This finish is mentioned in one of these reviews :

$200 for an "as good as new" MIM Strat is a steal of a deal IMHO.

Not sure of the official Fender color name, but the Satin Strats were available in a few different colors. They have been discontinued for a while now. Your buddy's Strat is from ~2003 judging from the serial number. It's just a MIM Standard Strat with a satin finish and black plastic parts. Good deal for $200 if you like the feel of that finish.
