Parting out for maximum profit?
Hi all, I need a new ( lighter Strat, I have one that is basically my '73 with a changed body and pick guard. the body, a later one is heavy as all heck ash! )
At this point in time I think my best course of action is to Fleabay the parts and buy what I really want and will work best for me. I'm thinking about dividing it up as follows but the electronics are my biggest question. S/N Neck plate and screws. Neck without hardware. Neck hardware ( as it took me a long time to replace two single "F" tuners, I figure there are a lot of people who don't need an entire set, and it can be easier to b a singles as I did. ) Trem block and hardware, springs claw etc. Pick up covers. Knobs. Electronics: Gray bottom stagger pole pups. three way switch, and pots, this is the big question, should they stay together, or be separated? The bridge pup had been replaced, but the original stayed with the guitar and was reinstalled, so other than the solder joint for the output jack and the bridge pup all solder joints are original, as are the pots and switch. Sell the primed/unfinished body and tilt plate on the forum and donate the full sale price including shipping to the TDPRI Now, I am trying to get the most I can at this time, as I need to replace the guitar and pay off an unexpected incoming auto bill, it kinda breaks my heart to do it this way, but I need to have a Strat, and I think I can pay my car bill and pick up a CV squire if I can sell this all. Any advice would be appreciated, I want to do it right, but I also want to do as right by the guitar as I can, if that makes any sense... it has served me well, and I will miss the maple neck on that ( it's had all the heavy polyester resin peeled from the fretboard ( which made it unplayable in certain sections from the factory.. ) but nothing else has been removed, just that heavy crap between and over some of the frets! Thanks, Mike

I would put the pickup covers and knobs with the electronics all on a pickguard (is the pickguard original?).....a pickguard assembly as it were. Maybe the knobs could be sold separately, but the covers need to go with the pickups, imho. The orignality of the solder joints sort of makes these parts sold as a unit more desirable to my way of thinking, especially if they are on the original p-guard. AS always, I could be wrong. Good luck with it.

Thanks wally! Yeah, the Pick guard had been changed unfortunately.... but perhaps I could put them on the aftermarket guard I have here and sell as a whole assembly... would love to see it stay together, Didn't expect to be going through a second car this spring, Just picked up some CV Teles too... oh well, I'll play them more. If I can get my car realigned and some used lights and grill pieces plus a CV I'll be satisfied ( junker VW Gti, so it don't have to look pretty, just get me to school! ). I guess I have to do some research and figure out some kind of reserve price, plus take excellent pictures!

Do good research, Wax. IT woudl be a sad thing to break those original solder joints and sell those electronics separately, but they might bring more that way. You could always try the pickguard assembly route with a good reserve. IF that doesn't bring you what you want, break 'em up and get the 'separates' price.
Good luck. |

Thanks man... I just kinda fell like selling a guitar is like selling a child, I've never sold a single guitar that I didn't regret. But, I honestly feel that the quality that is coming out today is great, I don't use this, and I could use the money... I know the parts even if I left them in a draw will just go up in value tough, that's the sad thing to realize, but I need to have my car fixed and bombproof by mid August! School is more important, especially after my accident, with my back I'm lucky to be able to play guitar, I should just be thankful for that alone.
Thanks again Wally!
