Swap Meet Score

So a little while ago I was at my local swap meet which doubles as a drive-in theater after sunset and came across an absolutely filthy MIK Squier Stratocaster that I just had to enquirer about. The entire guitar was covered in dirt and grime. It looked like it was left outside for a while. He told me it was a '94 and wanted $40 for it. I offered $30 and he accepted. When I brought it home I plugged it in to my surprise and delight everything worked. It took about 20 minutes to clean up the guitar, but it turned out pretty well. Now, there are a few nics and cracks as well as a couple dings. The worst thing is the outline of a sticker that was taken off, which I will probably cover up with another, but for $30 I didn't mind.

The tuners were a little loose, so I replaced them with a $20 set that fit the original 'f style' hole pattern. While I was at it I also bought new pots, Fender 5-way switch, and Switchcraft jack for $25. I'm thinking of replacing the pickups with a cheap GFS Vintage Alnico or Keystone set, but for now the stock ones are gettin' 'er done.

So for $75 I got a nice '94 MIK Squier Strat with plenty of mojo.

Nice guitar. The ladies at the local Salvation Army Store have held back guitars for me a couple times--the last one was a MIK '89 Strat with a rosewood board and hard case for $25.00. Of course, I HAD to rewire it since the previous owner took it apart and forgot how to put it back together. lol.

Unfortunately no before shots, I was in too much of a hurry to clean it up and test it out.

That's really cool Octave. Sounds like I need to befriend some of the ladies at my local thrift stores.
